The botulinum toxin

Type A botulinum toxin (also known as Botox) is a protein naturally produced by Clostridium botulinum bacteria. It has been used since the 80s in neurology and ophthalmology.

Esthetic medecine usage

In esthetic medecine, the botulinum toxin is indicated to prevent or reduce expression lines.

More precisely, it can reduce or even eliminate inter-eyebrow and crow’s feet wrinkles by inducing muscle relaxation in treated areas.

The botulinum toxin can also be used to reduce excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis or hypersudation).

Injections

The almost painless injection is done by using a thin needle in the muscle concerned by the wrinkle.

Anesthetic cream can however be applied one hour before the treatment.

Effects

The effect of the product appears after a few days and gradually decreases in 4 to 6 months. It is advisable to practice this injection once or twice a year.

Depending on the injected dose you can reduce wrinkles without freezing the expression with a natural result giving the face a serene and relaxed appearance. The disadvantages are limited and always reversible. The resumption of a normal activity is possible the same day.

In the majority of patients, wrinkles completely disappear and reappear a few months later. There is no addiction to the product and no allergic reaction has been described to date.
